Tigers narrowly defeated 11-10 by Marshfield in extra inning Friday

WAYNESVILLE, Mo. (April 16, 2010) — Marshfield narrowly defeated the Waynesville baseball team 11 to 10 in an extra eighth inning on Friday.

Patrick Holt was the starter for Waynesville, giving up only five runs in five innings. Patrick Holt also had two runs during the game. Offensively, the game speeded up after the fifth inning, but in the first four innings, the Tigers scored three runs while Marshfield scored four runs.

In the fifth inning, after Holt left, Marshfield scored three runs to make the score 8 to 5. Waynesville scored two runs in the bottom of the inning to make score 8 to 7.

The score remained the same in the sixth inning, but in the seventh, Marshfield scored two runs to make the score 10 to 7. Waynesville managed to score three runs in the bottom of the seventh, tying the game and sending it into extra innings.

In the eighth inning, Marshfield scored one run to make the score 11 to 10.

Waynesville was unable to score another run in bottom of the eight, ending the game in defeat.

The offense was a team effort. David Faulkner had a couple of runs batted in. Sam Dowling scored several times and had one RBI. James Holler had a couple of runs batted in as well. There was no standout number one player and the Tigers displayed offensive ability all around, but Holt’s pitching did keep the Tigers close for the majority of the game. David Faulkner also worked in relief of Patrick Holt.
