JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. (Feb. 18, 2009) — Sen. Frank Barnitz, D-Lake Spring, recently welcomed Julia Witthaus of Hermann, daughter of Michael and Denise Witthaus, to the Capitol as his job shadow for the day of Feb. 17.

Julia Witthaus joined Barnitz as he heard bills in committee and met with constituents in his office. Barnitz also attended dinner with Witthaus and the other job shadow program participants.

“Having Julia here was really enjoyable,” said Barnitz. “She is interested in and enthusiastic about the legislative process, and I hope she had a fun, educational experience while she was here in Jefferson City.”

Witthaus became interested in government after participating in 4-H’s Citizenship Youth Forum, which gives students the opportunity to participate in a mock government. She is a sophomore at Hermann High School and was elected to serve as the representative of South Central Region on the 4-H council.

“It’s been very interesting,” said Witthaus. “I didn’t know it was so easy to come in and see your state senator, but just today I’ve seen a lot of people come in to talk about their concerns.”
