DIXON/LAQUEY, Mo. (May 19, 2010) — In a low-scoring but exciting game, Dixon won a close match against Laquey by a score of 3 to 2 at Tuesday evening’s Iberia tournament.

Dixon started scoring in the second and third innings, putting up three runs while Laquey scored no runs until the sixth inning. Laquey scored two runs in the sixth inning but couldn’t finish the effort and never surpassed Dixon’s three runs.

Garret Gan and Jarrod Lonergan provided the two RBIs for Laquey.

The game’s low score was largely due to good pitching.

Laquey’s pitcher did a solid job throughout the complete game, keeping the score down while getting many outs in succession. Dixon’s starter wasn’t the team’s ace but pitched well until the sixth inning when he was removed from the game.

Dustin Doyle replaced him a hard-throwing efficient reliever. Doyle held Laquey to their two runs with no further scoring after he entered the game, likely saving the game for Dixon.

With hard, efficient play from both teams, Dixon, though the favorite in this game, barely came away victorious. The Dixon Bulldogs are expectedto have a tough match against Conway in the semifinals.
