| Nine hurt in four area wrecks |

PULASKI COUNTY, Mo. (March 14, 2009) — Four separate crashes sent nine area residents to hospitals with a variety of injuries, according to Missouri State Highway Patrol reports.
Troopers reported that Clifford P. Bales, 38, of Waynesville, totaled his car in a Thursday night rollover on Highway U about a mile west of Crocker.
Bales was driving a 2001 Dodge 2500 pickup westbound at 10:15 p.m. when he began skidding and sliding, ran across the centerline, and ran off the roadway before overturning. Bales, who had been wearing his seat belt, suffered moderate injuries and was taken to St. John’s Hospital in Lebanon. His vehicle was removed by Gene’s Towing of Crocker.
According to state patrol reports, Bales was arrested at 11:04 p.m. on charges of driving while intoxicated and careless and imprudent driving involving an accident. Bales was released at the hospital subsequent to his arrest.
A rear-end crash Friday evening in Plato caused minor injuries to five people.
Troopers reported that Ryan Q. Fields, 18, of Lynchburg, was westbound on Highway 32 within the Plato village limits when his 1996 Ford struck the rear of a 1999 Dodge van driven by Jimmy H. Lathan, 26, of Roby, who was also westbound but had slowed to turn into a private driveway.
Fields had not been wearing his seat belt but was not hurt. The driver and four people inside the van, all Roby residents, suffered minor injuries and were treated at Texas County Memorial Hospital in Houston: Amanda J. Ashlock, 25,Aubrey Ashlock, 6, Andrew Latham, 4, and Noah Latham, 3. All had been wearing their seat belts or child restraint devices.
Fields’ Ford sustained only minor damage and was driven from the scene. Latham’s van sustained moderate damage and was removed by the owner.
Two separate one-vehicle crashes on Saturday hurt three people.
Troopers reported that James A. Brandt, 24, of Dixon, was southbound on Route BB about 1.6 miles south of Highway 42 in Miller County at 2:45 a.m. when his 2003 Jeep ran off the left side of the road before striking a fence and a tree. Brandt suffered moderate injuries and his passenger, Kara L. Rowden, 24, also of Dixon, suffered minor injuries; both were transported by private vehicle to Lake Regional Hospital in Osage Beach. Both had been wearing their seat belts, troopers reported.
Their vehicle was extensively damaged and removed by Woods Towing of Eldon.
A motorcyclist wrecked his 2003 Harley-Davidson at 2:05 p.m. on Highway T about three miles north of Waynesville.
Troopers reported that Robert R. Robinson, 56, of St. Robert, had been riding northbound when he ran off the right side of the roadway, struck an embankment and was thrown from the motorcycle. Robinson, who had been wearing a helmet, suffered serious injuries and was transported by Pulaski County Ambulance District personnel to General Leonard Wood Army Community Hospital. His motorcycle landed in a small dry creek bed and was removed by Rothmund’s Towing.
In two unrelated actions, state troopers working in Pulaski County arrested Richard A. Birdsong, 53, of Richland, at 11:24 p.m. Friday on charges of driving while intoxicated as an aggravated offender and failure to drive on the right half of the roadway. Birdsong was transported to the Pulaski County Jail where he was placed on a 24-hour hold.
Less than two hours later, troopers arrested Skyler M. Julian, 19, of Dixon, at 12:55 a.m. Saturday on charges of being a visibly intoxicated minor and transported him to the Pulaski County Jail where he was subsequently released.
