State troopers stop 51 in Thursday crackdown on Pulaski speeders
PULASKI COUNTY, Mo. (April 20, 2009) — State troopers announced Monday that they conducted an “Arrive Alive” selective enforcement operation in Pulaski County last week in an effort to cut down on speeding drivers.

The eight-hour operation on Thursday specifically targeted drivers who were exceeding the posted speed limit, according to Capt. Lee Ann H. Kenley, the commanding officer of Rolla-based Troop I of the Missouri State Highway Patrol.

Kenley said troopers stopped 51 vehicles. Stops resulted in 35 citations for speeding, one for following too closely, one for a non-moving traffic violation, and two for commercial motor vehicle violations.

In addition, troopers issued 36 warnings.

Sgt. Dan Crain, the spokesman for Troop I, said he did not believe any of the 39 people cited were taken into custody.

In a prepared statement, Kenley said she would like to encourage motorists to be both cautious and courteous as the amount of traffic on highways increases with the approaching summer months. Kenley also noted that motorists who use cell phones can dial *55 to report an emergency or advice state troopers of serious traffic violations.
