A Springfield man was airlifted with serious injuries following this Monday afternoon rollover wreck.
LAQUEY, Mo. (Nov. 10, 2008) — A Springfield man suffered serious injuries following a Monday afternoon rollover wreck that sent his silver 2004 Jeep Cherokee careening into the trees off Highway 17 about five miles south of Buckhorn.

Rescue personnel received calls about 1:30 p.m. reporting a crash on South Highway 17 about a half-mile north of Sunnyside Road. When Waynesville firefighters arrived, they found Jonathan Whitworth, 30, of Springfield, had been ejected from his vehicle and called Hazelgreen firefighters to set up for a local medical helicopter service to land at the Laquey landing zone.

Pulaski County Ambulance District paramedics transported Whitworth from the crash scene at 1:44 p.m. and arrived at the landing zone at 1:52 p.m. Whitworth, who had not been wearing his seat belt, was flown to St. John’s Hospital in Springfield for treatment.

According to Missouri State Highway Patrol reports, Whitworth had been northbound on Highway 17 when he ran off the left side of the roadway, steered back to the right, overturned, then ran off the right side of the roadway before coming to rest on its wheels.

The Jeep was totaled and removed by Jack’s Wrecker of St. Robert. Mark Twain REACT personnel also assisted with traffic control at the crash scene.
