WAYNESVILLE, Mo. (March 7, 2009) — A two-vehicle rollover wreck on Interstate 44 in front of Waynesville High School seriously injured one driver and totaled both vehicles Saturday afternoon.
According to Missouri State Highway Patrol reports, George B. Adams, 20, of Waynesville, was westbound on Interstate 44 in a 2003 Jeep Liberty about 1:48 p,m. when he struck the rear of a 2005 GMC Sierra driven by Roger J. Wilkinson, 62, of Janesville, Wis.
Adams’ Jeep ran off the left side of the interstate about mile marker 157, struck the median cable and overturned. Wilkinson’s GMC Sierra ran off the right side of the interstate, crossed a ditch and overturned, landing on its passenger side and spilling its contents along with a large black trailer.
Adams was not hurt but Wilkinson was seriously injured and airlifted to St. John’s Hospital in Springfield. Both drivers had been wearing their seat belts, troopers reported.
The vehicles were removed by Jack’s Towing.
Waynesville firefighters and Pulaski County Ambulance District personnel also assisted at the crash site.
