FLW man arrested following gun incident at Osage Beach

Kerry R. Porter, was arrested following a Feb. 17 altercation with an Osage Beach woman.
OSAGE BEACH, Mo. (Feb. 21, 2009) — An online hookup involving a Fort Leonard Wood man ended in violence and shots fired on the night of Feb. 17.

A Fort Leonard Wood spokeswoman said she couldn’t confirm whether the man lived on post but said he doesn’t appear on the record of military personnel assigned to the installation.

According to the Osage Beach police, a local woman in that community began chatting online with Kerry R. Porter Jr., 24, of Fort Leonard Wood about a month ago. The 23-year-old woman met Porter at a restaurant and decided to bring him home at 11:45 p.m. to a residence she shared with an estranged 30-year-old boyfriend on Dude Ranch Road.

A fight between the men ensued moving quickly outside when police allege Porter pulled a .40-caliber handgun from his truck, fired it in the air and punched the estranged boyfriend in the face several times.

Police were dispatched at 11:47 p.m. and initially believed they were responding to a dispute involving a knife, but were advised while on their way to the incident that a gun was involved. Porter fled Dude Ranch Road in a black Ford truck and was later apprehended by Camden County deputies near the intersection of Highway 54 and Y Road. He has been charged with unlawful use of a weapon and bonded on $50,000.

The injured boyfriend was treated at Lake Regional Hospital.
