Customer hurt when van rams through St. Robert gas station Friday

A van smashed through the All-Star Express gas station in St. Robert on Friday afternoon.
ST. ROBERT, Mo. (Feb. 20, 2009) — One customer was transported to an area hospital Friday afternoon when a van rammed through the front window of the All-Star Express gas station.

Shortly before 2 p.m., St. Robert emergency police and firefighters responded to a report that a vehicle had rammed into the gas station and was still inside. Upon arrival, they found a blue Mercury Monterey rammed against the cooler doors in the back of the gas station.

“The vehicle went through the front glass and all the way through to the back,” said St. Robert Police Chief Curtis Curenton.

Curenton said the vehicle driver was not hurt but one customer in the store was transported by Pulaski County Ambulance District paramedics to Phelps County Regional Medical Center with undetermined injuries.

Neither the driver nor the injured customer’s names were immediately released. They’re expected to be available later today.

St. Robert public works department personnel responded, along with Laclede Electric linemen. St. Robert Land Use Administrator Alan Clark said the building won’t have to be shut down and should be able to reopen soon.

“There is no structural compromise to the building or any electrical hazard,” Clark said. “They’ll just have to board up the front entrance for security reasons; what he’s got to do is clean up the mess.”

Numerous vehicle-versus-building crashes have happened in the last three years, including Lynch’s Furniture, Family Dollar, and the Mobil on the Run gas station.

“We were saying as we came down here that it seems like there’s been a lot of these recently.” Clark said.
