Candidates file for Crocker council, Laquey school board, Dixon Ambulance board
PULASKI COUNTY, Mo. (Jan. 15, 2009) — Crocker has two more candidates running for office.

The city council has been facing serious financial problems and just went through a heated Monday night meeting in which more than 30 residents turned out to protest the possible termination of longtime City Administrator Joyce Peterson. Aldermen denied that they had made plans to terminate Peterson.

On Wednesday, Raymond Towe turned in his candidacy papers and joined Linda Wilson, who turned in her papers on Tuesday, in seeking to replace Mayor Jim Morgan.

Morgan has held the job since Norma Lea Mihalovech stepped down after nearly four decades as Crocker’s mayor.

Also on Wednesday, resident Tom Townsend turned in candidacy papers to run against Ward I Alderman Jim Patton. Bill Laughlin is also seeking that seat.

The Dixon Ambulance District finally has its first candidate. On Thursday, incumbent Subdistrict 1 board member Dennis Lachowicz filed Thursday for re-election to his three-year term, but Subdistrict 4 board membe Art Forshey hasn’t yet filed for re-election.

A new candidate filed Thursday for the Laquey R-V School Board. Incumbent Mary Ann Miller joins the other incumbent, Mary Cristoffer, and three other challengers, Larry Southard, Fanny Gan and William W. Council, who filed earlier for two seats on the board that will run for three years each.

People interested in city councils, school boards, fire boards or ambulance boards have less than a week left to turn in their paperwork. Those who want to run for positions on Pulaski County’s five city councils, six school boards, two ambulance districts and for the Dixon and Crocker fire district boards have until Jan. 20 to file candidacy papers.

City, school and ambulance board candidates should file at their city hall, school administration building, or main ambulance base. Since the Crocker and Dixon fire districts don’t have full-time staff, Crocker fire board candidates file papers at the Crocker City Hall and Dixon fire board candidates file at the offices of Bassett Realty.
