Rep. David Day named chair of House Veterans Committee

JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. (Jan. 13, 2009) — House Speaker Ron Richard, R-Joplin, has selected Representative David Day, R-Dixon, to chair the House Veterans Committee for the 95th General Assembly. Day also served as chair of the committee for the 94th General Assembly.

“David has been our most vocal advocate for veterans’ issues and will provide the kind of leadership this body needs as we explore ways to better serve the men and women of our military,” Richard said. “He is the ideal choice to guide this committee as it works to ensure our veterans are treated as the heroes they truly are.”

The House Veterans Committee considers and reports upon bills and matters referred to it relating to veterans affairs and the promotion and strengthening of states’ rights and military and naval affairs of the State. As chair of the committee, Day will preside over committee hearings and will be instrumental in dealing with all legislation referred to the committee.

“I am honored to have the privilege to continue my service as chair of the House Veterans Committee and I am excited to work with my colleagues to address the issues faced by our veterans,” said Day. “We have made great progress on several key issues in recent years, but there is much more we can do to serve our veterans. I am ready to get to work to help all the men and women who sacrificed so much for the sake of our nation.”

Day, named Legislator of the Year by the VFW in 2007 and 2008 and by the American Legion in 2007, has been a key player in securing the passage of several important pieces of legislation for military members and veterans.
