Crocker, Richland candidates file for city council, fire board
CORRECTION APPENDED: An incorrect number was listed for the Crocker subdistrict of the Pulaski County Ambulance District.

RICHLAND/CROCKER, Mo. (Jan. 3, 2009) — The new year brought three more candidate filings, according to city staff members in Richland and Crocker.

Incumbent Crocker Ward I Alderman Jeff Curry filed on Friday for re-election to his one-year unexpired term on the Crocker City Council. Curry joins incumbent Mayor Jim Morgan in submitting his candidacy papers; Ward I Alderman Jim Patton and Ward II Alderman Kim Skaggs-Henson have not yet turned in their candidacy papers for their regular two-year terms.

School boards, ambulance boards and rural fire boards are elected by their district’s residents but don’t have to hold an election if the same number of candidates file as are to be elected. School boards usually have multiple candidates, but fire and ambulance boards often don’t have to go through the expense of an election.

However, that won’t be the case this year for the Crocker Fire Board’s two seats. Incumbent Crocker Fire Board member David Ellzey does not plan to run for re-election, but incumbent Robert Ishmael filed for re-election on Dec. 16, the first date for which filing was open. Since then, Jeff Porter filed on Dec. 17 and a new candidate, Randall Moore, filed on Friday.

In Richland, incumbent Ward II Alderman Mac Myers filed on Friday and will face a challenger, Thomas Murphy, who turned in his candidacy papers on Tuesday. The Ward II race will be one of at least two contested races in that city: incumbent Mayor Bob Wall is being challenged by Kimi Gerred. Also, while incumbent Ward I Alderman Eldon Haun has not yet filed for re-election, Larry Jeffries turned in his candidacy papers on Monday for that position.

Those who want to run for positions on Pulaski County’s five cities, six school boards, two ambulance districts and open seats on the Dixon and Crocker fire districts have until Jan. 20 to file candidacy papers.
