ST. ROBERT/RICHLAND, Mo. (Dec. 30, 2008) — Two more candidates filed for city councils on Tuesday: incumbent St. Robert Ward I Alderman Theresa Cook and Richland Ward III resident Thomas Murphy, who is challenging incumbent Ward III Alderman Tim Bailey.
Cook’s filing leaves St. Robert Ward III Alderman Allan Johannsen, Richland Ward II Alderman Mac Myers and Richland Ward I Alderman Eldon Haun as the only remaining council members up for election this year in those cities who haven’t yet turned in their candidacy papers. Johannsen, Haun and others wanting to run for positions on Pulaski County’s five cities, six school boards, two ambulance districts and open seats on the Dixon and Crocker fire districts have until Jan. 20 to file candidacy papers.
So far, no challengers have filed to run in St. Robert against incumbent Mayor George Sanders, Cook, Ward II Alderman, Johannsen, or Ward IV Alderman Bill Shaw, but the Richland races are more competitive. Mayor Bob Wall faces a challenge from Kimi Gerred and if Myers files for re-election in Ward I, he’ll face a challenge from Larry Jeffries, who turned in his candidacy papers on Monday. So far, Municipal Judge Rodney Blanchard is running unopposed in Richland; St. Robert’s municipal judge position is not up for election this year.
