New Predator mission will bring more jobs to Whiteman Air Force Base

WASHINGTON, D.C. (June 21, 2010) — Today, Congressman Ike Skelton (D-Mo.) announced that a new mission will bring 280 military and civilian personnel to Whiteman Air Force Base. The new MQ-1 Remote Split Operation squadron and ground control station at Whiteman Air Force Base, from which pilots will control MQ-1 Predator drone aircraft, is expected to be operational by February 2011.

“Secretary of the Air Force Michael Donley called me this morning to let me know that Whiteman Air Force Base has been selected for this new MQ-1 Predator control mission, which will bring approximately 280 personnel to the base. I have been working with the Air Force to secure this mission for Whiteman for over a year, and I am so proud of the men and women of Whiteman whose excellent work proved to the Air Force that Missouri is the right location for this important mission.

“It has long been my goal for Whiteman to be one of America’s premier military installations. This new MQ-1 Predator control mission is an important addition to Whiteman’s capabilities which will make critical contributions as our nation combats 21st Century threats,” said Skelton.
