WAYNESVILLE, Mo. (April 20, 2010) — The Waynesville Tigers varsity baseball team played well Tuesday but narrowly lost to Lebanon, 8 to 7.
Patrick Holt and Romeo Florez were the two major contributors. Romeo Florez hit in an RBI in the sixth inning to make the score 8 to 7 while pinch hitting. Holt went 2 for 4 with a single, double, stolen base and had an RBI; however Holt’s biggest contribution was in pitching, only giving up one run between innings four and seven.
In the first inning, several walks led to a 2-0 lead for Lebanon. In the third inning Waynesville scored five runs with David Faulkner, Holt, Damion Fadl, and Kevin Jones all bringing in runs.
The third inning turned out to be the high point for the Waynesville team, as by the next inning, Lebanon responded with five runs to retake the lead by a 7 to 5 margin. In the sixth inning Lebanon scored one run but Waynesville scored two runs making score 8 to 7.
Ultimately, after Holt’s ball was caught near the home run track, Waynesville couldn’t score in the seventh inning, ending the game with the 8 to 7 score.
