Two arrested at Greyhound depot after Saturday manhunt

ST. ROBERT, Mo. (Dec. 20, 2008) — Police from four law enforcement agencies descended on St. Robert’s Greyhound bus station Saturday evening after receiving a tip that two fugitives might be at the station.

A man and woman whose names haven’t yet been released were arrested at the bus depot and turned over to the Missouri State Highway Patrol for questioning, after what patrol spokesman Sgt. Danny Crain called “a very intensive search for the two individuals.”

That search began after what initially appeared to be a relatively minor crash of a 1994 Nissan minivan at 5:10 p.m. at mile marker 159 in St. Robert. Firefighters found the vehicle had crashed in the westbound lanes but the occupants had fled. After checking the license plates, law enforcement personnel discovered the vehicle had been reported stolen in another state. The out-of-state reporting agency told troopers that the people believed to have taken the vehicle were considered dangerous suspects from another incident.

Crain said the people arrested Saturday night are being held only in connection with the vehicle.

“The two individuals who were caught were arrested for tampering with a motor vehicle; there is still investigation ongoing and that is where I need to leave it at the point,” Crain said.

Crain declined to specify the reasons the man and woman were considered dangerous, but said law enforcement placed a high priority on finding them.

“There was a significant commitment of manpower by the Pulaski County Sheriff’s Department, Waynesville police and St. Robert police, assisting us,” Crain said.

“There was a real strong cooperative effort by all agencies,” Crain said. “Information developed which led to law enforcement going to the St. Robert bus depot after being advised of a possible sighting.”

Neither the man nor the woman were injured in the crash, Crain said. Both were taken to an area jail for further questioning.
