Head-on crash near Hazelgreen totals two vehicles on Saturday afternoon

A head-on wreck totaled two vehicles Saturday at Exit 145.
HAZELGREEN, Mo. (March 13, 2010) — Emergency personnel say a man blacked out for unknown reasons prior to a head-on crash Saturday afternoon near Exit 145 of Interstate 44, totaling two vehicles as a result.

According to Missouri State Highway Patrol reports, Robert G. Campbell, 41, of Richland, had been eastbound in a red 2000 Ford Windstar van when he ran off the left side of the eastbound on-ramp of Interstate 44 at 2:44 p.m., ran down a embankment and onto the interstate where his van was struck by an eastbound gold 2000 Chevrolet Cavalier driven by Krista S. Bird, 20, of Fort Wayne, Ind. Both vehicles went into the median and struck the median cable before coming to rest.

Campbell was not hurt but Bird suffered minor injuries and was transported by Pulaski County Ambulance District personnel to St. John’s Hospital in Lebanon. Both vehicles were removed by Rothmund’s Towing.

Hazelgreen firefighters and Tri-County firefighters from Richland also assisted at the scene.

Both drivers had been wearing their seat belts, according to state patrol reports.

In unrelated incidents reported by state troopers on Saturday, March 13:

• Jacob E. Smith, 25, of St. Robert, was arrested at 7:34 p.m. in Cole County on charges of driving while suspended and speeding 81 mph in a 55 mph zone. Smith was transported to the Cole County Jail where he was eligible for bond.

• Henry A. Weiner, 35, of Lebanon, was arrested at 12:45 a.m. in Pulaski County on charges of driving while intoxicated and failure to stop at a stop light. Weiner was transported to the Pulaski County Jail and subsequently released.

• Dagoberto Jimenez, 22, of Santee, Calif., was arrested at 1:10 a.m. in Pulaski County on charges of driving while intoxicated. Jimenez was transported to the Pulaski County Jail and subsequently released.

• Jaylita Jackson, 20, of Waynesville, was arrested at 1:53 a.m. in Pulaski County on charges of driving while intoxicated and following too close. Jackson was transported to the Pulaski County Jail and subsequently released.

• Sean A. Thompson, 23, of Devil’s Elbow, was arrested at 4:22 a.m. in Pulaski County on charges of driving while intoxicated. Thompson was transported to the Pulaski County Jail and subsequently released.
