Waynesville, Richland keep schools open, most others close

PULASKI COUNTY, Mo. (March 4, 2019) — While the Dixon R-I School DistrictLaquey School District, and Plato R-V School District all cancelled classes Sunday evening for Monday March 4, and the Crocker R-II School District cancelled classes at 4:56 a.m. Monday, the Waynesville R-VI School District announced Sunday that district officials plan to keep schools open today despite what is expected to be very cold weather. Richland R-IV Schools also remained open.

As of 4 a.m. Monday, most roads on U.S. Army Fort Leonard Wood were in "green" condition, meaning no driving problems. Exceptions were training areas and secondary and unimproved range roads, which were in "amber" condition, meaning that "road conditions are difficult to hazardous with patches of ice or packed snow" and travel is limited with "essential traffic" with drivers needing to "slow to 10 MPH below the posted speed limit to maintain traction and a safe stopping distance."

As of 5:50 a.m. Monday, most major MoDOT roads including I-44 were reported as being clear, except for Highway 17 from Waynesville through Crocker to Miller County, which was reported as being in "mostly clear" condition.

According to the Waynesville announcement: "Transportation personnel have been out driving the routes and at this time, the district plans to run regular bus routes except for a very limited number. Individuals on those impacted routes will be contacted and given instructions about their bus routes. The temperature and wind chill are projected to be very low tomorrow morning. Please dress students accordingly and limit exposure to the maximum extent possible. Buildings will be open for students who arrive early, and bus drivers will be patient for those waiting in their homes. Additional buses will be stationed throughout the community in the event of mechanical issues to avoid prolonged waiting at bus stops."
