Charges filed against Rolla man in Saint Robert pool hall shooting
SAINT ROBERT, Mo. (Feb. 8, 2010) — A Rolla man faces charges of both first-degree and second-degree assault in connection with an early Monday morning shooting at OB’s Billiards that sent one victim to the intensive care unit at General Leonard Wood Army Community Hospital with a bullet wound to his abdomen.

St. Robert Police Chief Curtis Curenton confirmed media reports that Erick Carrasco, 23, was arrested by his department and that the two felony charges against Carrasco stemmed from the pool hall shooting. Online court records indicate that Carrasco is being held on a $250,000 cash or surety bond on a Class A felony charge of first-degree assault causing serious physical injury and a Class C felony charge of second-degree assault and that he was charged on Monday, but don’t give details of the reasons for the two charges filed by Pulaski County Prosecuting Attorney Deborah Hooper.

The first-degree assault charge carries a maximum penalty of 10 to 30 years in state prison; the second-degree assault charge could bring a penalty of up to seven years in state prison.

Curenton said his department filed a total of four probable cause statements requesting charges but said more information won’t be available until Tuesday.

Law enforcement records show that multiple agencies responded to the 12:08 a.m. incident at OB’s Billiards and that three people were detained with at least two men eventually arrested. It’s not clear who the additional man was or whether additional charges will be filed by the prosecutor.

The shooting victim’s name has not been released by police, which is standard policy to protect the privacy of crime victims.

Carrasco has appeared several times before in Pulaski County courts, but not for anything as serious as shooting charges.

According to online court records, Carrasco has a pending case of speeding 11 to 15 mph over the limit filed in August by state troopers that hasn’t yet been processed because he failed to appear in court for a September hearing and an arrest warrant was issued against him in December. He also pleaded guilty in March to a state patrol citation for speeding 11 to 15 mph over the limit the previous month.
