Trooper S. Crabtree examines a wrecked recreational vehicle
SAINT ROBERT, Mo. (Dec. 3, 2009) — A crash on Interstate 44 on the westbound approach to the Roubidoux Bridge has snarled traffic since 9:43 a.m. today; Missouri Department of Transportation personnel reported the blockage continued until 3:05 p.m.

State troopers, Waynesville and St. Robert firefighters, St. Robert police and Pulaski County Ambulance District personnel responded to a wreck at westbound mile marker 159.2 and found that a black late-model Chevrolet Silverado pickup truck pulling a large white recreational vehicle had careened off the roadway and slid several hundred feet down a steep ravine, leaving parts of the RV frame entangled on the guardrail.

According to Trooper S. Crabtree, the driver, Amanda R. Childress, 27, of Brookfield, Wis., was westbound when the RV trailer started fishtailing, causing her to lose control of the vehicle and run off the right side of the roadway, throwing a tire of the vehicle all the way across to the left side of the roadway as the vehicle careened down the ravine.

The RV and pickup were expected to be totaled, Crabtree said, but the pickup truck was too far down in the ravine to produce a clear damage estimate until Jack’s Towing pulled it out of the ravine.

Childress avoided significant injury and declined medical treatment by ambulance personnel. Crabtree said citations are pending in the case.

In an unrelated state patrol incident:

• Troopers in Pulaski County arrested Thomas F. Crnkovich, 58, of Sparta, at 3:48 p.m. Tuesday on an outstanding Crawford County warrant for a traffic violation. Troopers transported him to the Pulaski County Jail where he was eligible for bond.
