Police chase driver Saturday after hit-and-run

PULASKI COUNTY, Mo. (Dec. 2, 2008) — Charges are pending following a police chase involving three different departments after a hit-and-run crash on Saturday morning on Highway 28 in front of the Road Ranger truck stop.

According to a report issued Tuesday morning by St. Robert police, Eathan W. Crace of Dixon was making a right turn from the Interstate 44 interchange onto Highway 28 in a 2000 Cadillac about 2:15 a.m. when he was travelling too fast for the roadway, crossed the road, and ran off the north side of the roadway. When he attempted to bring his vehicle back onto the roadway, he overcorrected, causing his vehicle to rotate 360 degress counterclockwise, during which he ran into the westbound lane and hit a 2005 Kia driven by Erica U. Pilago, 24, of Fort Leonard Wood.

After hitting Pilago’s Kia, Crace’s vehicle travelled down an embankment and fled the scene.

Pulaski County Ambulance District paramedics treated Pilago at the scene and transported her to General Leonard Wood Army Community Hospital with undetermined injuries.

Two passengers in Pilago’s vehicle, Kayla D. Hammonds, 26, and Joshua M. Johensen, 26, both of Fort Leonard Wood, had been wearing their seat belts and reported no injuries.

St. Robert police report that charges are pending.

Pulaski County Sheriff’s logs report extensive detail about the hit-and-run involving Crace’s vehicle.

About 2:17 a.m., dispatchers reported that the vehicle was seen on Highway 28 going toward Big Daddy’s Cabaret but deputies lost sight of the vehicle at 2:18 a.m. near Harvey Road. The driver’s mother called later in the morning reporting that her son had taken her Cadillac Escalade. The vehicle was spotted at 4:49 a.m. on Highway D going toward the county line, seen again at 5:14 a.m. going westbound on Highway D, and was spotted again driving at a high rate of speed at 5:23 a.m. on Columbia Road near Dixon and then on Cactus Road, turning onto Chicago Road about 5:25 a.m.

Dixon police were contacted in an attempt to stop the vehicle at 5:25 a.m. but the pursuit was called off at 5:30 a.m. after the vehicle turned toward Vienna. The driver’s mother called back at 7:09 a.m. reporting that the vehicle had been found on Highway 28 near Timber Lane.
