Two crashes just outside county injure two area residents Friday afternoon
PLATO/NEWBURG, Mo. (UPDATED 9 p.m., Aug. 1, 2009 July 25, 2009) — Two separate crashes on Friday just outside Pulaski County injured two area residents, according to Missouri State Highway Patrol reports.

A Plato woman totaled her vehicle in a wreck near the Texas-Pulaski county line about 2:45 p.m.

State troopers reported that Angela K. Richards, 21, had been southbound on Route 17 about four miles north of Roby when she ran off the right side of the road in her 1995 Chevrolet and hit a tree. Richards, who had been wearing her seat belt, was transported by ambulance to Texas County Memorial Hospital in Houston for treatment of minor injuries. Her vehicle was removed by Arrington Towing.

About two hours later, troopers responded to another crash on Highway J about a quarter-mile south of the Interstate 44 junction at Exit 169. That’s just slightly west of the Phelps-Pulaski county line.

Troopers reported that Jackie L. Morgan, 30, of Newburg, had been riding a 2003 Harley Davidson motorcycle southbound on Highway J when he crossed the center line at 4:55 p.m. and struck a 2004 Cadillac driven by Daquanna J. Snider, 57, of Waynesville, who was also headed southbound but had pulled off the roadway. Both vehicles sustained minor damage and Morgan’s motorcycle came to rest off the right side of the roadway.

Snider was not hurt, but Morgan suffered serious injuries and was flown by a Lifeline helicopter ambulance to St. John’s Hospital in Springfield.

Troopers later released an updated report indicating that following additional investigation, they determined that Snider had been stopped on the northbound shoulder facing southbound when she entered the roadway, crossed the centerline, and struck Morgan’s southbound motorcycle.

Both vehicles were driven to a nearby residence. Both drivers had been wearing helmets or seat belts, troopers reported.
