|PULASKI COUNTY, Mo. (Feb. 5, 2010 UPDATED 3:45 p.m.) — Fort Leonard Wood officials have announced that an early staggered release for non-essential personnel is being authorized due to the weather. According to a post press release, supervisors are encouraged to manage early release beginning at 3 p.m. today. A liberal leave policy is in effect; those with questions should check with their supervisor.
In addition, at 3 p.m. post officials announced that many Morale Welfare and Recreation facilities will close early and Saturday youth sports may be affected. A complete list is posted at the end of this article.
Many local school districts have also authorized early release. Waynesville R-VI School District officials have announced that classes will dismiss two hours early. The Dixon R-I School District let students out at 12:30 p.m.; the Laquey R-V School District and Crocker R-II School District dismissed at 1 p.m.
Richland schools had a planned early-out day anyway on Friday and released students as planned.
According to Fort Leonard Wood’s emergency operations personnel, most road conditions were still “green” as of noon, which means no traffic problems. However, two accidents have been reported so far and some roads are rapidly deteriorating; unimproved range roads and the ranges are at amber conditions, with training areas and Fort Leonard Wood Route 20 at “red” condition.
Amber conditions mean roads are difficult to hazardous and drivers need to slow to at least 10 mph below posted limits to maintain traction and a safe stopping distance. Roads in “red” condition have difficult or no stopping conditions.
At 3 p.m., Fort Leonard Wood officials announced numerous additional closures scheduled for 4 p.m. with more possible on Saturday.
The following Morale Welfare and Recreation (MWR) facilities will be closed today at 4 p.m.:
• Outdoor Adventure Center (Big Buck Dinner postponed until Feb. 19, previously rescheduled for tonight.)
• Army Community Service (Emergency Number: ACS for AER 573-433-6326, American Red Cross 877-272-7337, nights and weekends)

The following facilities will remain OPEN:

Post officials also issued a special note for Saturday, Feb. 6, youth sports games: if the Fort Leonard Wood SNAIR Report has roads listed as green or amber, Saturday games will be played. If roads are red, youth games will be cancelled.
