WASHINGTON, D.C. (May 27, 2010) — Today, Congressman Ike Skelton (D-Mo.) voted against an amendment, offered by Rep. Patrick Murphy (D-Pa.), that would repeal the law, commonly known as “Don’t Ask Don’t Tell,” that bars openly gay citizens from serving in the United States military.
“My position on this issue has been clear — I support the current policy and thus opposed the so-called Murphy Amendment to repeal ‘Don’t Ask Don’t Tell.’ I am disappointed that my colleagues jumped the gun and acted before the Pentagon could complete its review,” said Skelton after the vote. Congressman Ike Skelton (D-Mo.) serves as chairman of the House Armed Services Committee. Congressman Skelton’s website is at www.house.gov/skelton.
