DIXON, Mo. (Dec. 7, 2008) — For the past three years Miss Jerica Durham, an eighth grade student from Dixon Middle School had received nominations to attend the Junior National Young Leaders State Conference (JrNYLC) which had been held in Washington DC. Due to indirect reasons, she had been unable to attend these conferences. This past November the Congressional Youth Leadership Council hosted the, 2008-09 National Young Leaders State Conference (NYLSC), which was held in St. Louis, Missouri. With the help from friends, family, and local businesses Jerica was able to accept this years nomination to attend this four day conference.

Through this program Jerica learned techniques to improve on and build her existing leadership skills. With completion of this program Jerica earned the status as a State Scholar and learned key leadership concepts which include: group dynamics, effective communication, decision-making, goal setting, project management, presentation, public speaking, and leadership style among others. Jerica will take the skills learned at NYLSC and develop a personal leadership plan to apply to her life now that she has returned home.

Jerica received nominations to attend this conference based upon her academic achievement and leadership potential. Jerica is the daughter of Darrell Durham of Dixon, Sherri Pierce of Devils Elbow, and the Granddaughter of Ruby Rollins of Dixon, and Bill and June Rollins of Crocker. Jerica would like to thank the following for their generous donations that enabled her to attend. Dave and Lois Carroll of Dixon, Craig Sellers of Dixon, Carlene McMillan from the Dixon Family Practice, Sellers-Sexton in St. Robert, Rick Lepard and Sherri Pierce of Pulaski County Web, Sky Powers from the Hometown Pharmacy in Dixon, Columbia College Fort Leonard Wood campus, Darrell Durham of Dixon, Mike and Denise Stoner of Dixon, Ruby Rollins of Dixon, Randy and Angie Alexander of Dixon, Jim and Lori Rollins of Dixon, Tom and Debbie Goosey of Ozark, Bill and June Rollins of Crocker, and Bill Rollins of St. Robert.
