DIXON, Mo. (June 3, 2014) — Charlsie Hickey, of Dixon, was born on Feb. 21, 1912, at Iberia, a daughter of Walter Marshall and Lefta (Morrow) Jones, and departed this life at 4 a.m., Tuesday, June 3, 2014, at her residence in Dixon. Mrs. Hickey had attained the age of 102 years, 3 months, and 12 days.
Mrs. Hickey was united in marriage on Jan. 8, 1930, at St. Louis, to Ora Myrl Hickey who preceded her in death on May 31, 1998. In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her father in 1959; her mother in 1974 and two sisters, Georgia Irwin and Pauline Hickey.
Mrs. Hickey was baptized early in life when attending the Mt. Gilead Church in rural Dixon and later attended the Burnett Christian Church, near Dixon. She had worked for Cotters Pharmacy in Springfield for 22 years, retiring on March 31, 1969. Mrs. Hickey was a member of the Ladies Auxiliary of the United Transportation Union and the Ladies Auxiliary American Legion Post No. 298, Dixon.
Those left to cherish the precious memories of Mrs. Hickey include: numerous nephews and nieces and other relatives and friends. Funeral services were conducted for Mrs. Hickey at 11 a.m., Thursday, June 5, 2014, in the Long-Kloeppel Funeral Chapel, Dixon, with Rev. David Hokanson, Burnett Fundamental Christian Church, Dixon, officiating. “I’ll Fly Away”, “Precious Memories” and “Amazing Grace” was played for the funeral service.
Interment was in the Fox Crossing Cemetery near Dixon, under the direction of the Long-Kloeppel Funeral Homes and Cremation Services, Dixon. Pallbearers for Mrs. Hickey were Ralph Irwin, Danny Milligan, Daniel Simpson, Ronnie Davy, Ronnie Humphrey and Chris Combs.
Memorials are suggested by the family to the Fox Crossing Perpetual Care Fund with envelopes available at the Long-Kloeppel Funeral Home, Dixon.
