DIXON, Mo. (Nov. 16, 2008) — It seemed fitting that we enjoyed seeing snow flurries on the day of the Miss Merry Christmas Pageant. This beautifully decorated pageant was held at the Dixon High School on Saturday night. The decorations consisted of strands of lights across the back wall to create a silhouette of the Paris city skyline which included the Eiffel Tower. The stage was decorated with white Christmas trees that were decorated with black and white abstract ornaments, small pink ornaments, black and white feathers spiking at the top, and a piece of pink netting surrounded the bottom of the tree trunks. The stage was draped with the same pink netting, and adorned with dazzling white Christmas lights.

The contestants for this pageant go through many days of preparation. Prior to the pageant they all have individual photo shoots. These photos are published in the local Dixon Pilot newspaper the week of the pageant. As you enter the High School the contestant's black and white photos are hanging in the foyer for the patrons to enjoy. The days prior to the pageant the contestants also attend private interviews with the judges.

Lacy Rollins the MC for the evening begins the pageant by giving the audience the opportunity to pay respect to the flag with a beautiful recording of the National Anthem. When the pageant begins the contestants make their first appearance in nice dress clothes as they walk across the stage striking a pose, making their first impressions on the audience, and yet another impression on the judges. There are a total of five qualified judges, their chairperson, as well as two auditors, and their chairperson.

This year the pageant was divided into three groups Little Miss Merry Christmas, Junior Miss Merry Christmas, and Miss Merry Christmas. There were a total of 36 young ladies in this year's pageant. After the first walk across the stage all three groups stood smiling and waving at the crowd while the Dixon auditorium filled with applause.

Throughout the night as the girls left the stage to prepare for the formal portions of the evening they had five entertainers that sang songs of the season. The formal portion of the evening began with the Little Miss contestants. When they were through walking the stage in their formals the Junior Miss contestants were next. After the Junior Miss contestants were finished walking in their formal gowns, they brought out the Little Miss contestants to announce the top five in their age group.

Once they selected the top five in each group, those five had to answer a question drawn randomly from a hat. Undoubtedly, the cutest answer was when they asked Lillian Kaolowi what her favorite food to eat during the Christmas holiday was. She answered by saying, "I like to eat it because I like peanut butter and jelly."

When the top five Little Miss contestants were finished answering the questions the Miss Merry Christmas contestants began to grace the stage in their formal gowns. Once they finished their walk they brought out the Junior Miss contestants to call the top five in their category. They were asked questions from a hat and asked to exit the stage. Then the Miss Merry Christmas contestants came out. They called the top five in that category and they answered their questions.

The escorts for the pageant were Little Miss escort Seth Parker, Junior Miss escort Justin Thompson, and the Miss Merry Christmas escort Cory York. The winners of the Little Miss Merry Christmas were forth runner up Madison Lasher, third runner up Khloe Irvin, second runner up Alyssa Cash, first runner up Alexis Graves, and Lillian Kaolowi was awarded the title of Little Miss Merry Christmas.

The winners of the Junior Miss Merry Christmas contest were forth runner up Morgan Gann, third runner up Miranda Johnson, second runner up Jerica Durham, first runner up Brook Donaldson, and the title of Junior Miss Merry Christmas went to Shanna Wagner.

The winners for the Miss Merry Christmas contest were forth runner up Lydia Robertson, third runner up Sara Glynn, second runner up Tori Fritchey, and the first runner up Amanda Sellers. The winner of the Miss Merry Christmas pageant was Jaclyn Bell. She also won Miss Congeniality for her group. When she walked the stage in her formal gown, she stayed true to her true nature by wearing her dependable cowboy boots.

This pageant would not be possible if it were not for the many sponsors and volunteers that support it. The bulletin for this pageant offers a special thank you to all that helped to make it a great success. In closing, I will add a quote I pulled from the pageant bulletin. It states at the end of the long list of business and individual sponsors, "The most magical part... lies within the beauty of one's own heart."
